«Bonus thing 1: The Official Rules of ScrambleBonus Thing 3: Nedrak Creation Myth»

So here's a little bonus thing since I probably won't have time to write the next chapter until early next week. I drew a rough map  for my own reference after the first couple chapters, and I've been thinking of doing a more polished version for a while now. I may do another in the future, or color this one, who knows? Thanks for hanging around, folks.

On a different note, I wanted to mention that there are now CotF banners and buttons (for links/what-have-you) available on the Support the Sitepage. I've also (just now) decided to give bonus credit for every new link using the images, so... yeah.

A few notes:

  • Khartan is ruled by eight Lords, one from each major city (originally separate kingdoms.)
Raekos is the capital city of Khartan.
  • The Lord of Raekos is called the Seylord, and has marginal authority over the other lords—mainly as an arbiter.
  • Urgoth is the Dwarven city-stronghold built into and under the Alin Mountains.
  • The Alin Mountains separate Khartan from Alinea. Little is known of Alinea, as there are few who've had reason to cross the Alins, and even fewer who've come back.
  • Shawn is from Rowyra
  • Retis is from Stillbrook, a small town in The Vale
  • Raekos University is, of course, in Raekos.

    wow.
    that's absolutely beautiful, love.

  2. #2 Alex McG says:

    Thanks :)

I just realized I forgot to label the lake, desert, sea, and rivers... oops.

I'll do that. But I have to go to work soon, so it may have to wait until I get home. I'll try to do it now.

  3. #3 Alex McG says:

Okay, got it done. And with 2 minutes to spare.

  4. #4 michael mcg says:

tha's cool bro. is there an approximate scale you had in mind?

from a realistic standpoint i can't figure out what is causing the desert or the salt flats but right now i'm defaulting the magic... wizards even.

  5. #5 Alex McG says:

it's not really drawn to scale--the geographic elements look much larger than they actually would be, so there's much more distance between the river and the desert, for example. I don't have a actual conversion, but maybe i'll figure it out.

  6. #6 Whitney says:

@michael...haha. yes, i'd say default to magic...and just when i'd forgotten what your major was. hee.

@alex i wouldn't worry too much about the conversion unless you really want it. this looks and feels like some of the maps from the 1700s and such, where important geographic things are larger for emphasis (and art)...and there are like mermaids and scylla in the sea.

  7. #7 Alex McG says:

Exactly what I was going for, thanks!

  8. #8 Whitney says:

    hee. figured. you got it.

  9. #9 Cameron says:

    Interesting geography,
I hadn't expected to see an actual map of Khartan. Nice job with it
    -_- i wish i could draw

  10. #10 Severianz says:

@CameronI know what you mean about wishing you could draw.
He calls this a "Rough map".

This map really helps. I know it's rather common with fantasy stories but I almost always find maps helpful or at least interesting.

I also agree with Whitney about the map looking like it's from the 1700's. If you added a dragon or something it would look exactly like one.

You could even use that old saying that they put into the unknown parts of maps. "Here there be dragons"

  11. #11 Alex McG says:

Ah, but I'd have to write it over the whole thing...

  12. #12 Jamfan says:

    16!!! We want 16!!! um....please?

  13. #13 Alex McG says:

Only because you asked so nicely...

    Chapter 16 is up.
